MSO Awards CableWiFi™ Project to TrueNet Communications
September 18, 2012 – Jacksonville, Florida
TrueNet Communications announced today that a leading Cable MSO has awarded the company a system-wide CableWiFi™ design project in the Mid-Atlantic States. This is the second major CableWiFi™ project TrueNet Communications has been awarded in recent months.
The MSO’s regional CableWiFi™ rollout calls for almost 2000 outdoor WiFi hotspots to be located in popular, high traffic locations. Each Wireless Access Point (WAP) is designed to serve multiple establishments such as retail stores, cafes, restaurants, offices, clubs, outdoor malls, and parks. The WAPs are either strand or pole mounted with device power supplied from the CATV plant through a power-passing tap.
“We’ve seen a spike in WiFi project activity since the May 2012 announcement of the CableWiFi™ initiative among a number of leading cable MSOs. The initiative for the first time positions cable-operated Wi-Fi as a widely available alternative to mobile broadband,” stated Mark Lampke, TrueNet Communications Broadband Services Division Senior Vice President.
Initial design work for the project has already begun with an anticipated completion in late 2012.
