Truevance Participates in “Connecting to Those in Need” Campaign
On Monday November 8, Truevance presented The Food Bank of Central Louisiana, which serves an area that has been hard hit by the economic downturn, flooding and hurricanes, with a check for $1000 for its “Connecting to Those in Need” fall food drive.
Last year, the campaign collected more than 27,000 pounds of food and monetary equivalent, which would equate to more than 35,210 meals for area residents. The program goal this year is to collect 40,000 pounds of non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Food Bank, and through it, to its more than 85 member agencies.
According to Truevance COO, Mark Lampke, who presented the check to the Food Bank Executive Director Jayne Wright-Valez, Truevance learned about the drive through the efforts of Suddenlink Field Systems Manager Tony Cifelli. Since 2007, Suddenlink has been the drive’s corporate partner and its employees have worked tirelessly to make the campaign a success with 98.2% of Suddenlink’s employees volunteering to help with the drive. In addition to setting up collection points in Suddenlink offices, city halls and grocery stores throughout Central Louisiana, Suddenlink technicians also accept contributions during their daily rounds.
For every dollar donated, the Food Bank of Central Louisiana can provide five meals to families in need. In 2009, the organization distributed over 5.7 million pounds of food to children, families, and seniors in need of emergency food assistance. Each year, the Feeding America network of food banks and food-rescue organizations distributes more than 2 billion pounds of food and grocery products to support feeding programs at approximately 50,000 local charitable agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after-school programs and Kids Cafes.
